Auto Width & Auto Height in Axure 8

In playing with Axure 8, I’ve noticed that the way they now handle auto sizing has been changed.  Previously you could right click on an element and select “Auto Fit” options from the menu.  But this has changed with their latest release.

There are 2 methods for achieving the same effect in Axure 8.  Use whichever works best for you.

Method 1 – Double clicking the anchor points of an element.

anchor points

You can double click on various anchor points to auto size elements.  And each anchor point will do something different.

1a) Corner anchors will Auto Width + Auto Height

1b) Left and right anchors will only Auto Width

1c) Top and bottom anchors will only Auto Height.

This is probably the easiest method, but might take some getting used to if you have gotten used to right clicking.

Method 2 – Style Tab in the Inspector

style manager

There are new buttons in the Style tab that will auto fit the text to width and height, located directly under the width and height sizing inputs. However this method will require you to click over to the Inspector and locate the buttons, which seems more time consuming than Method 1.  But it all comes down to preference.

Hope this helps anyone who was confused about this change in Axure 8.

Happy prototyping!
