Thanks to Axure 8’s new shape capabilities it’s now easy to create vector shapes that are completely customizable.  My first attempt at doing so is this iPhone wireframe mockup that you can use for either lo-fo work, or with some tweaking, high fidelity mockups.

Adjust borders, backgrounds, gradients and shadowing!

As you can see with the example above, it can be used with high fidelity work and styled to match any design.

Auto Width & Auto Height in Axure 8

In playing with Axure 8, I’ve noticed that the way they now handle auto sizing has been changed.  Previously you could right click on an element and select “Auto Fit” options from the menu.  But this has changed with their latest release.

There are 2 methods for achieving the same effect in Axure 8.  Use whichever works best for you.

Method 1 – Double clicking the anchor points of an element.

anchor points

You can double click on various anchor points to auto size elements.  And each anchor point will do something different.

1a) Corner anchors will Auto Width + Auto Height

1b) Left and right anchors will only Auto Width

1c) Top and bottom anchors will only Auto Height.

This is probably the easiest method, but might take some getting used to if you have gotten used to right clicking.

Method 2 – Style Tab in the Inspector

style manager

There are new buttons in the Style tab that will auto fit the text to width and height, located directly under the width and height sizing inputs. However this method will require you to click over to the Inspector and locate the buttons, which seems more time consuming than Method 1.  But it all comes down to preference.

Hope this helps anyone who was confused about this change in Axure 8.

Happy prototyping!

Introducing Project Comet: a new tool for designing and prototyping user experiences | Creative Cloud blog by Adobe

As if we didn’t have enough evidence that UI and UX tools were melding together, this is Adobe’s attempt to integrate user experience and visual design. This is the future. Wake up Axure.

We’re at Adobe MAX 2015 with some exciting news for UX Designers. We unveiled the progress we’ve made on a new design tool, code-named Project Comet, that combines wireframing, visual design, prototyping, and previewing all in one.  Built specifically for today’s UX design challenges, Comet is fast and fluid so it can scale with large and complex projects.

Over the years, we’ve learned a lot about what you need and have created tools so you can deliver your best design work. As technology has changed, so has the way that you approach your work.  Instead of one screen, you now have to think about multiple screens and how the experiences you’re creating relate to each other.
